It's no secret that long time friend of Catch Recordings 'Ste Roberts' is one of the most talented DJ's and producers around. Having been A&R for the legendary UK label Hypercolour Records and guest at Free Rotation, one of the UK's most heady festivals it's no surprise that he's now decided to launch 'STE', his own imprint solely focusing on his own productions.
The first EP lands this coming monday and given that 'Broken Sleep' the 2nd track to the first EP has already featured on The Black Madonnas most recent mix for Tsugi Mag, it's definitley not one to miss.
You can read the quote from herself below:
"An eccentric funky techno as I appreciate it. The dragging synths of this title of Ste make you feel haggard, while the rhythm section makes you move your feet. mastering here is particularly beautiful"
This coming summer we have the honour of been invited down to one of the UK's most promising independent festivals 'Alfresco Festival'
The award winning festival is now in it's 7th year of operation and the line-up shows. With main stage acts like the legendary DJ Harvey, Midland and Call Super, it's no wander that it's one of the talking points of the summer.
The festival will take place is the beautiful Kent countryside from the 25th - 27th May, and as they put it themselves "where three days of music, magic and happiness await you"
We will be one of the hosts of the woodland stage this year, bringing it to a close on Sunday afternoon into the evening. Joining us will be CALL SUPER, INTERSTELLAR FUNK and SOLAR playing alongside Catch Recordings owner 'Nadsat' with longtime friends of the label, Hypercolour and STE Records mainstay 'Ste Roberts' and NEEDS (Not For Profit) owner and curator 'Bobby Pleasure'
The weekend is set to be full of great vibes and awesome music, so come on down and start your summer off Alfresco style.
Here's Nadsat's mix as part of the podcast series:
Towards the end of 2017 Decoded Magazine sat down with Catch Recordings label owners Nadsat and Robert Chadwick to talk all things music, life and Catch. Thanks for taking the time to catch up with us and present our label. You can read the article below.
Alongside this, they also asked that we create a label mix featuring only Catch Recordings tracks...
This is the result...
"I was a little nervous about doing this mix at first as our range is so varied that I was unsure about how to make a fully coherent mix in only and hour, while showcasing different genres and from the beginning to current times of Catch.
In the end I was really happy with how it turned out which is credit to the artists and the releases they have done for us"
Liam O'Shea (Lo Shea) the man behind Sheffield's imprint, Hope Works & Hope Works Records shows us how it's done with an immersive sensory experience, entitled 'Wet Sounds' at No Bounds Festival.
What IS Wet Sounds?
Wet Sounds is an underwater sound art installation and performance - a deep listening experience
Touring swimming pools, it presents listening sessions to a floating and diving audience in the water. The participants are fully immersed in sound. Free to move weightlessly in the sound space.
"Astonishingly immediate, inescapable" / The Guardian
"like being in the womb" / Mizled Youth
"Exhibitions dont get much more successful than that" / The Wire
Wet Sounds effectively creates three sound spaces in the physical space of the swimming pool. One inside the water, one outside the water and one a merger of the two as the listener floats on the surface of the water. These three distinct sound spaces are chosen by the listeners as they move in and out of the water. The three sound spaces are used to convey parallel narratives, musical and literal.
We are thrilled to bring this to Sheffield as part of No Bounds Festival.
Please visit the Wet Sounds website here to get a full rundown of what this entails!
Note : This show requires ticket with its own admission fee.

As a long time friend to the Catch Recordings crew and notably, one of the best emerging DJ's in the UK House and Techno scene, it's not only fitting that we feature Ste Roberts in our blog page, it's essential.
Ste is no new-comer to the trade, but 2017 feels like it's going to be his most exciting year to date. With a string of record label launches throughout his career, alongside being the A&R for Hypercolour, one of the UK's most talked about labels, the world of underground music is starting to cast it's eye towards the sounds of the UK selector.
A summer gig schedule made up of slots at highly regarded festivals, such as; Free Rotation/Gottwood & Glastonbury as well as an exiting new project with UK mainstay Tom Demac, makes Ste Roberts the ideal candidate for our man of the hour!
We decided to use his latest Hypercolour Show on Rinse FM as evidence:
For more info on Ste and to find out his up coming shows. Head to his artists page on Resident Advisor:
Artist and long time friend to us at Catch, Bobby Connolly aka 'Bobby Pleasure' has been causing quite a stir in the electronic music scene for the past few years now. From all night session at London's famous new haunt 'Lion & Lamb' to billing on legendary festivals such as SGP & Love International...his sound is hard to avoid.
Moving into summer 2017, he now launches his own 'Not For Profit' record label. The ethos behind the label is to use music as a medium to spread love, unity and the idea of giving back. Promoting harmony and togetherness rather than isolation and estrangement, each release and accompanying event will act as a support stream to various issues within society such as mental health, homelessness and equality.
For the first release they have a stellar VA from 'Hubie Davison', 'Johannes Albert', 'DJ Swagger' and 'Bobby Pleasure' himself. Four artists from different countries of the world who all have the 'NEEDS' factor, and have very kindly donated their music to our dance floor.
All profits from this release will be donated to the mental health charity Mind (www.mind.org.uk).
Massive respect to the whole crew behind this, i'm sure that mental health is something that we've all been effected by in some way and what these guys are doing by raising awareness is crucial for the health sector.

A little video from our all night B2B from label head Nadsat and Ste Roberts...We always love going back to Leeds, and when the vibe was this good, it's a no brainer :)
With Leeds being the birthplace and home for Catch Recordings, we couldn't think of a more fitting piece to feature this week...See below for all details of this extraordinary show!
A new live music spectacular will see classic club dancefloor anthems reimagined and performed in a unique and contemporary way on Millennium Square this summer as two contrasting Leeds-based musical institutions come together for the first time to celebrate the full range of the city’s sensational musical offering.
The soundtrack of legendary Leeds club night Back to Basics will be performed by a 50-piece symphony orchestra from Opera North in a live extravaganza at the heart of the city centre on Friday, July 28.
The event, entitled The Symphonic Sounds of Back to Basics, is a new collaboration between Opera North, Leeds City Council and Back to Basics founder Dave Beer, which also marks an incredible 25 years at the forefront of UK club culture for the trailblazing brand.
The production team responsible for creating this spectacular show are renowned songwriter and producer Steve Anderson, who has been musical director for Kylie Minogue for over 20 years, and whose credits include Paul McCartney, Take That and Leona Lewis - and Cliff Masterson, who has worked as conductor and arranger for artists including Emeli Sandé, Little Mix and Katherine Jenkins. Together they curated the sell-out Lush Classics concerts in Belfast, produced the music for the opening of the Commonwealth Games, Glasgow (2014) and composed original music for the London Olympics (2012).
Steve Anderson said: “Cliff and I are so honoured to be working with the incredible Orchestra of Opera North in such a beautiful setting. Our new, expanded arrangements of club classics will bring back some very special memories for anyone who’s ever danced, made friends or fallen in love at the legendary Back to Basics”.
The evening will also include special guest appearances from well-known club artists and long-time friends of Back to Basics: Adamski, Robert Owens, A Man called Adam and The Beloved with more star guests still to be announced.
Dave Beer, founder and owner of Back to Basics said: “I'm really excited about this event and it's a privilege to be working alongside Opera North and their amazing orchestra. Music has always been my life and I've devoted the biggest part of it to bringing music to the city that I love. I'm so proud that Leeds City Council recognises our contribution to the city over the past 25 years and is honouring us in this way.
Since its inception back in 1991, many friendships and unions have been made by those people who met on our dance floors, and this event provides a wonderful opportunity for family and friends across three generations to come together for a unique celebration right at the heart of the city on Millennium Square”
The Back to Basics event will be the first in a trio of summer collaborations between Leeds City Council and Opera North over the course of the same weekend, opening the annual Summer Series on Millennium Square.
A Night at the Opera will take place on July 29 and will feature the finest operatic arias and show-stopping songs from the musicals. On Sunday, July 30, a special screening of classic blockbuster Back to the Future will be accompanied by Opera North’s full symphony orchestra performing Alan Silvestri’s stunning musical score live.
Phil Boughton, Director of Orchestra and Chorus, Opera North, said:
“Love of music in all its forms is at the core of Opera North, and we are delighted to begin this new collaboration with Leeds City Council and Back to Basics, celebrating the best of live music this summer with three completely different open-air events.
Councillor Judith Blake, leader of Leeds City Council, added:
“It’s fantastic to be joining forces with Opera North, one of our city’s most esteemed cultural institutions, to bring this exciting weekend of events to Millennium Square.
“It is our ambition to put culture at the heart of Leeds and make sure all our events are vibrant and accessible for all, and the Symphonic Sounds of Back to Basics event is an exciting and imaginative way to start the Summer in style”
Tickets for all three Opera North in the City events are on sale now, with a weekend pass offering admission to all three concerts at a discounted price.
The Millennium Square Summer Series also includes other live music concerts from 70s soul legends The Real Thing, Heatwave and Jaki Graham and UB40 ft Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue with support by Lemar with other music offerings and film screenings to be announced. Thanks to the team at 'Electronic Groove Magazine' for their review of our recent release from 'Horos' entitled 'Labyrinth'
See below for shots of the review:
The guys at XLR8R have been nice enough to feature 'Kthon' as a free download, which has been taken from the forthcoming 'Labyrinth EP' from HOROS.
In their words (and ours):
The label describes the release as "a knowing mix of house, techno, and bass-heavy styles that is fresh and exciting."
Ahead of the release, "Kthon" is available to download below, a deep and sludgy cut with scurrying little sounds and percussive hits.
01. Sea Of Crete
Next up on Catch Recordings we have HOROS:
Horos is a Russian space program who, at least to the public eyes, aims to get humanity to Mars. The mission was designed to be supported by a super AI called iSys and an orbital station named Drurss. Turns out the whole experiment reveals to be a brutal military plan and it uses the Czech jet fighter pilot Gustav Sokol to its most sadistic purposes.
Horos was created by Bruno Belluomini in order to mix fiction and personal experiences as a storytelling background for his analog sonic discoveries.
Bruno Belluomini has performed at festivals such as Wiener Festwochen (Vienna Festival) and Sónar alongside names like Ben Klock, Len Faki, Move D, James Blake, Kode 9, Pinch, Boxcutter and Appleblim. His work has been noticed by Vice, Spin, The Fader, XLR8R, DJ Mag and Mixmag, as well as by the British documentary Bassweight. Agony, his recent vinyl by Lux Rec, has the support of Radio Slave, Scuba, Lena Willikens, Volvox, Marsman, An-I, John Heckle, Extrawelt, DJ Deep, Jacques Renault, Alexis Le Tan, among others.
In case you missed us on the night...Here's the (rather jumpy) live recording from the night. Thanks to all the supporters that tuned in and were there on the night :)
This week we're showing some love for one of the places where it all began...Mono_cult!

This will be their final soiree so if you're in the UK we suggest you get your tickets...FAST!

mono_cult 10th Birthday
Canal Mills, Leeds

Tale Of Us
Mood II Swing
Afterparty info TBA
Tickets go on sale at 9am on Wednesday 18th January.
On the 4th March we return for a one-off reunion party to celebrate our 10th birthday.
The last 10 years have been eventful from our humble beginnings as a small gathering at The Lounge in Leeds, to throwing parties in Barcelona, Croatia and London, before bringing everything to a close with our final soiree at Canal Mills on NYD last year.
To celebrate a decade of parties, we’ll throw a one-off gathering this March, bringing together all the party people who have made the night so cherished, with a massive line up featuring some old mono_cult favourites, alongside an act we’ve been trying to lock down for many years.
Coming straight from Berlin, our main room opener will be label owner and Panorama Bar resident Soundstream, who first joined us at our 4th birthday party back in 201. He’ll be returning to our hometown to help us celebrate the 10th anniversary with his irresistible blend of disco, Chicago house and raw jams.
Another returning firm mono favourite will be the unstoppable Belfast duo Bicep. After their numerous barnstorming sets for us of the years, we just had to have them back for some more taps off action!
Headlining the main room is an act we’ve wanted to bring back for a good few years since their last set got cut short with us (due to the fire!). Tale of Us, will be rejoining us for what is sure to be a memorable and rare return performance in Leeds.
Over in Room 2 we’re delighted to welcome a mono_cult debut and an act we’ve wanted to add to our roster for many years – Mood II Swing. The NYC duo’s house records have been on regular rotation in our sets and we’re super excited to welcome them for the 10th birthday.
Joining Mood II Swing in room 2 will be our trusty residetns and founders from 2007, Matt Long, Brad Mercer and Paul Kaminski, who will no doubt be delving back into the vast catalogue of mono_cult classics throughout the night.
Here’s to the last 10 years!
